Assignment - System Dynamic Modelling Showing the Benefits of IoT in Sugarcane Farming
Identify the factors in the production of sugarcane. The factors influence all crop production such as seed, fertilizer, crop rotation, rainfall, temperature, humidity, altitude, water, pH of the soil, pests, and diseases.
Second, Develop a basic system dynamic model that covers the factors important to sugarcane production. It will allow for comparisons of cane yield outputs dependent on changes to the inputs. Scenario outputs will be compared to real yield data obtained from the literature. In this way the model will be validated.
Third, smart farming methods that can be run automatically using IoT will be included in the model. For example, a loop that allows irrigation to be switched on and off based on soil moisture content will be introduced.
Fourth, scenarios with and without IoT loops in the model will be compared in terms of yield outputs. Thus, comparisons with and without IoT connections will be used to compare the extent to which IoT improves sugarcane yields.
Fifth, estimates of the costs of implementing the IoT solutions and profits from yields will be used to develop a cost benefit analysis in rands.
