Question: When you read your classmates' responses, play "the devil's advocate." Even if you agree with them, push back against their arguments. Explain to your classmate why you think their argument is weak, flawed, or wrong. Have some fun with this, but do not use a fallacy. On the other hand, if you detect a fallacy in their argument, point it out. Stay as close to facts and logic as you can. Did I mention that you should have some fun? Well, do. Classmate response Although many people may think free will does not exist, I believe free will is a very real thing, because it does not make sense that everything in everyone's life is already predetermined. Determinism is an argument that has been around for some time and debates that everything in a person's life has already been calculated. Actions that you made in the past were determined by actions that you made even before that, and actions that you will perform in the future already rely on actions you made just now in the present. This argument has never been scientifically proven, but neither has indeterminism which is the debate that some events that occur in one's life simply just happen. Even though indeterminism has never been officially settled, this debate sparks a little more reliability between the two arguments because it focuses on determining what changes within each action to end up with a certain result. This argument at least tries to look at all aspects. Scientists and researchers do not have this topic all figured out, so for now it makes more sense that free will does exist and we can only rely on probability to give insight on how an action or decision will play out.
