A study was conducted on the lengths of the logs from two lots. Samples were taken and the observations were as follows:

Lot 1 (in feet): 102, 86, 98, 109, 92

Lot 2 (in feet): 81, 165, 97, 134, 92, 87, 114

a) For the purposes of a t-test, it was assumed that σ12 ≠ σ22. Was this assumption correct?

b) Is the variance of log length in Lot 2 significantly different from 850 feet^2 ?
