The purpose of compiling the job analysis is to accurately list the essential duties and responsibilities that are expected in the role. The functions of the position can be used to determine an experience based compensation range among other things. It gives the applicant a review of the organization's required skill set and education requirements. If the job analysis is not accurate it subjects employers to legal risks based on the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act (Smith, 2015).
The first step an employer uses to draft a legally defensible job description would include determining the objective of the position and listing the obtainable outcomes. The job analysis gives the objectives, behaviors, and frequency of essential and non-essential expectations to legally protect the organization. In addition the duties and expectations are understood by the employee and applicants.
