  1. Most intravenous (IV) solutions used in hospitals are isotonic solutions, which exert the same osmotic pressure as body fluids such as red blood cells (RBCs). Two common isotonic IV solutions are 5.0% (m/v) glucose or 0.9% (m/v) NaCl. (glucose is 180.156 g/mole)
  2. If a 5.0 % (m/v) glucose IV solution is used. How many liters of glucose IV solution can be made from 5.0 moles of glucose?
  3. If a nursing student makes 1.0 L of glucose IV solution that is 2.5 M will this solution be isotonic, hypotonic (causing the blood cells to swell and burst, hemolysis), or hypertonic (causing the blood cells to shrink, crenation)? Show your calculations to justify your answer!
  4. If 0.75 L of water is added to the 2.5 M glucose IV solution in part B, what is the molarity of this new solution?
