The Absolute Ages of Surfaces

In the first half of the course you learned that we can determine the absolute ages of the terrestrial world's surfaces by comparing them to the surfaces of the Earth's Moon. Explain why this is possible. Briefly describe the procedure for determining the absolute age of a mare surface on Mars. You learned in the second half of the course that this procedure is no longer valid - that we can not use the Earth's Moon to determine the absolute ages of worlds beyond the Snow Line. Explain why this is the case.

Meteorites and the Asteroid Connection

Meteorites are samples of other worlds in the Solar System. They tell us a lot about asteroids for sure, but also a lot about the properties of the Solar System itself, not the least of which is the Solar System's age. What is the age of the Solar System and how did we obtain this information from meteorites? One of the main sub-classes of meteorites you were introduced to is quite common. Describe this meteorite class and also explain what it tells us about asteroids.

Resonances have played a big role in a variety of ways in this course. Explain what happens to objects that are in resonance with each other, citing a specific example presented to you in this course. Describe how events associated with your chosen example would be different today or would change if the two objects were never in resonance with each other.
