Determining team requirements: So much confusing material has been written about team and organisational visions and missions, but a clear vision or mission will be an invaluable help in determining why your team exists. Many types of teams exist in the workplace. They may be brought together for a short time to complete a project (problem-solving teams), or they may be permanent teams, or self-managed teams that are committed to longer-term goals. Whatever the team, a clear statement of why the team exists must be developed. Write a short statement relating to: i. why your team exists ii. what its overarching goals are i.e., what are the end results the team has to achieve rather than smaller goals along the way iii. how it 'fits' into the organisation iv. what type of team it is v. what you believe the organisation expects from the team vi. how long the team is expected to function as a team.
