Question: You have suspected for some time that production problems tend to flare up in the wintertime, during the first quarter of each year. A trend-seasonal analysis of the defect rates indicates seasonal indices of 1.00, 1.01, 1.03, and 0.97 for quarters 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively. Does this analysis support the view that defects are highest in the first quarter? If yes, justify your answer. If no, is there a quarter you should look at instead?
