Determining density

Purpose: Determine the density of an object by two different methods using the materials listed. At least one of your methods should use the ideas of buoyancy and Archimede's Principle.

Materials you will have available: digital platform scale; spring scale; string; large unmarked beaker; small unmarked beaker; flat tray; colored marker; water; object of unknown density (at least one of the beakers will have a indentation for pouring).

Pre-lab (not to be turned in): You will need to design two methods/procedures for determining the density of an unknown object. Write a detailed description of the two procedures you will use. Be sure to include:

1. How will you determine the volume of the object if necessary

2. What measurements you will need to record (you may want to set up a data table and have your equations ready to go).
