Question: The dye used in the Simmons Citrate Agar (SCA) is called bromthymol blue. It is green at neutral pH and turns blue as alkalinity increases. Could this dye be replaced by phenol red, which is red at neutral and higher pH and becomes yellow in the presence of acids? Explain.
