Question: At the core of a trusting care relationship is safety. This includes safety with sharing information and trusting that information will be kept in confidence. When coordinating with multiple team members, it is important to provide the client with information about who will be receiving information, how that information will be used, and what ethical and safety expectations are in place. This allows the patient an opportunity to provide informed consent as they enter treatment with the knowledge that information will be respectfully and responsibly shared with selected others for the purpose of enhancing the patient's care (Duggan, 2020). This also allows the patient to decide if the treatment approach is something they are comfortable with and to make an informed decision about their care. When a therapeutic relationship is determined, it is important to take ethical and legal measures to ensure that the patient's privacy and confidentiality are preserved. This involves following HIPAA protocols including appropriately safeguarding physical, oral, and electronic communication regarding the patient's care.
