Determine the type of design and diagrammatically represent them using O, X and R in the two experimental designs described below:

a) A leading maker of cereals decided to test the effectiveness of an in-store display. Two supermarkets located near the company's headquarters were selected for the experiment. The display was to be set up in front of one of the stores and sales were monitored for two weeks. The sales of the other store were also recorded for the same time, but no displays were used in this store. The company found that the sales volume for the cereals increased in the stores that used the in-store displays 2% more than in the stores that did not use the displays.

b) A social marketing organization at a University wanted to test student attitudes towards anti-smoking ads. Two random samples of students from the University were chosen for the experiment. Personal interviews related to their attitudes toward smoking were conducted with both samples. One of the two samples was shown the anti-smoking ad, and, following this, personal interviews were conducted with both samples in order to examine their attitudes toward smoking.
