A 200,000 cubic m highway embankment is to be constructed at dry density of 1.85 Mg/m^3 and optimum moisture content of 16% by compacting sandy silt taken from a borrow pit. The in-situ bulk density of the sandy silt is 1.92 Mg/m^3 and its average water content is 13%. determine:

a) the total volume of the sandy silt that must be removed from the borrow pit for construction of the embankment

b) the volume of water in m^3 that must be added to the sandy silt during construction of the embankkent. The specific gravity of the sandy silt is 2.70.
