Draw on the concepts and models used in this unit to analyse an organisation's problem or challenge and make specific recommendations.

This assignment will help you develop skills in applying the course contents in an organisational analysis.

Purpose

Assignment Specifications

This assignment aims at providing students with an opportunity to reflect on organisational problems and challenges and apply concepts and frameworks covered within the subject to solving such problems.

In groups of 4, students must:

Step 1: Select an organisation you know and determine to what degree Fayol's 14 principles apply.

Step 2: Analyse to what degree does this organisation fit Weber's ideal bureaucracy model?

Step 3: If the selected organisation has a long history, investigate whether the management style has evolved. How closely does it follow the evolution of management theory generally? What social and environmental factors impacted on management style changes in this organisation?

Assignment report structure should be, as follows:
- The report must include a cover page with who did what section in the report.
- Table of Contents
- Executive Summary

- An Introduction and background information of the selected organisation: Briefly introduce the purpose of the report. Within the introductory paragraph, you need to address the key topics you will address in the body paragraphs.
- Overview of the selected organisation and how Fayol's 14 principles apply
- Detailed analysis of the selected organisation supported with relevant concepts and theories.
- Conclusion: The conclusion must briefly summarise the key points in the body paragraphs.
- Reference List: Please include all in-text references in the list of references formatted in Harvard style. A minimum of 10 references is required.
