Suppose we use X-ray crystallography to determine the three dimensional structures of leucine and histidine at pH 8. This technique enables the determination of the positions of all the C, N, and O atoms in these two amino acids, but the hydrogen positions cannot be directly visualized with this technique. For which of the hydrogen atoms in these two structures will it be possible to infer the hydrogen positions, so that it is unnecessary to measure them?
