Question: 1. A simple pendulum of mass m = 5 kg and length L = 2 in is released from rest in a position defined by the angle θ0 = 60° with respect to the vertical. Assuming that the string is inextensible, determine the tension in the string in the positions θr = 30° and θ2 = 0.

2. Consider a uniform cantilever beam of bending stiffness El and obtain the equivalent spring constant corresponding to a bending moment applied at the free end x = L.
