A silver bar having the following characteristics:
Length = 10 cm
Constant cross section of area = 1 cm2
Density = 10.6 g/cm3
Thermal conductivity = 1.04 cal/(cm sec )
Specific heat = 0.056 cal/(g )
is perfectly insulated laterally, with ends kept at 100 for a long time.
Then at some instant, call it t = 0, the temperature at x = L is suddenly changed to 0 and kept at 0 , whereas the temperature at x = 0 is kept at 100 .
Determine the temperature in the middle of the bar and evaluate it at t = 1, 2, 3, 10, 50 sec. First guess, and then calculate. Also, plot the temperature expression vs. time from t = 1 to 50 sec using Excel .
