A centrifugal clutch has four shoes, each of mass 2 kg which are held on retaining springs of stiff ness 10 kN m 1 . The internal diameter of the clutch drum is 600 mm and the radius of the center of gravity of the shoes when in contact with the drum is 250 mm. The stationary clearance between the shoes and the drum is 20 mm and the coffin client of friction is 0.25. Determine (a) the speed at which the clutch starts to engage, (b) the power transmitted at a speed of 1500 rpm.
