Particles and Waves
The diffraction of radiation can be used to determine the spacing between atoms. In practice, the wavelength of the radiation used should be restricted to a value which is of the same order of magnitude as the interatomic distances to be determined. Such experiments are commonly performed using X-rays (electromagnetic radiation), however a beam of subatomic particles, such as of neutrons or electrons, may also be used if their corresponding de Broglie wavelength is of the appropriate magnitude.
Calculate the de Broglie wavelength of a neutron (mn = 1.67493×10-27 kg) moving at one eight thousandth of the speed of light (c/8000).
(Enter at least 4 significant figures.)
Calculate the velocity of an electron (me = 9.10939×10-31 kg) having a de Broglie wavelength of 180.1 pm.
Can anyone please explain me in detail what the solution is and what is one eight thousand of speed of light? is it (2.9927x10^8/8000)?
What is the hybridization of phosphorus in the phosphonium ion (PH4+)? If someone can tell me how to figure this out I would really appreciate it. Any shortcuts or hints on how to solve it?
The pH of a 0.10 M nicotinic acid solution is 2.93. What is the approximate value of Ka for nicotinic acid, HC6H4NO2? Assume small percent dissociation. pH = ?log10[H+].
You collect a distillate sample which has a refractive index of 1.391. Assuming that the refractive index of the hexane + toluene mixture varies linearly with mole fraction, what is the mole fraction of hexane in your sample?
Why does dropwise addition of acetophenone to a grignard reagent warrant precautions in lab?
calculate the temperature of an isothermal flash drum required to vaporize 40% of a liquid mixture of 60mol% isopropanol and 40mol% n-butanol
why is natural vanillin ethanolic extract considered to be of higher quality and therefore more expensive than the synthetic vanillin solution in ethanol
Question- How many mol of single bonds are broken when 2 mol of hydrogen reacts with 1 mol of nitrogen to form hydrazine (N2H4)
Then use the estimate to calculate the heat of formation of ethanol from the heats of formation (in KJ/mol) of CO2: -?394, and H2O: -?242.
Many gaseous reactions occur in a car engine and exhaust system. One of the reactions is NO2(g)+CO(g)-->NO(g)+CO2(g). Given the following information determine the overall rate order. Rate=K[NO2]^m [CO]^n
Note that in some cases, the "product" may be the result of a proton transfer reaction. Do not assume that an aqueous workup (H3O+) is performed unless it is specified
What is the equation for the overall reaction. What is the emf under standard conditions. step by step so I understand would be much appreciated
