Suppose you live in an apartment building that has lots of cockroaches that come and go from your apartment through holes in the walls (e.g. where plumbing goes through walls under your sinks). You have no access to most of the population of cockroaches, but you would like to get an estimate of how big the population is.

Describe how you could determine the size of this population. Be sure to thoroughly explain any calculations you would do involving your data, and explain precisely how those calculations would help you to estimate the population size.
