To evaluate something means to judge or determine the significance, worth, or quality of that thing. For this essay, you will choose an article from a newspaper or magazine and evaluate (judge) whether the author used the rhetorical appeals we learned in class (ethos, pathos, and logos) strongly or weakly to argue his/her point.

Directions:

Search for one article that makes a clear argument, analyze it carefully, and come up with an overall claim (your thesis) that will state how persuasive you thought the author's argument was based on his/her use of rhetorical appeals. Your thesis must give a reason as to why or why not you thought the argument was strong. Your introduction should begin with a brief summary of the author's argument and should then funnel down into your thesis statement (your judgment of how well the argument was constructed through the rhetorical appeals).
