The figure shows a cantilever beam with a thin-walled box cross-section. The beam is loaded by a downward tip force P with vertical line of action in y = -a. The dimensions of the cross-section are given in terms of a as shown in the figure and the wall thickness is t for all flanges.

a) Find the distribution of the shear force Qz and the torsion moment Mx.

b) Determine the shear stress distribution from the shear force Qz.

c) Determine the shear stress distribution from the torsion moment Mx.

d) Determine the resulting shear stress distribution by combining the results in b) and c), and find the maximum shear stress τmax.
