A merry-go-round in the park can be considered a circular disk of mass 100 kilogram and a radius of 2.0 meter. A student whose mass is 60 kilogram runs toward the merry-go-round in a direction that is tangent to its edge at a speed of 7.0 m/s. The merry-go-round is initially at rest. The student can be considered a point mass. I(disk) =½ MR2.

a. The student jumps on the edge of the merry-go-round. Determine the resulting angular velocity of merry-go-round?

b. The student then slowly walks toward the center of the merry-go-round, and stops 0.5 meter from the center. Determine what is the resulting angular velocity?

c. A second student then steps up and stops the merry-go-round by applying a steady force tangentially to the rim for 20 second. Determine the resulting angular acceleration.

d. Find how much force is required by the second student to stop the merry-go-round in this manner?
