A study was done to determine the relative rates of secure, insecure, and avoidant attachment of infants to their mothers. The researcher had mothers interact with their infants in a waiting room while she took notes. The researcher noted whether the child played happily and felt reassured by the presence of the mother, whether the child seemed clingy, and whether the child seemed aloof.

After concluding the study, the researcher determined that 32% of children are securely attached to their mothers, 20% are insecurely attached, 20% are avoidant, and 28% have a mix of attachment styles. The study mentioned above on attachment made use of which of the following methods?
