To define your marketable strengths to assist you with your Module 3 Major Project, complete the Skills Exercise. This exercise provides a checklist of 300 skills, knowledge, and abilities. They represent what companies value in an employee and qualities you can showcase to employers. This information helps define and profile your unique capabilities which will allow you to bring work virtues to the forefront and enable you to sell yourself to employers in a compelling manner.

Step 1 - Assess Skills

To determine the qualities that best fit you and provide key information for the Module 3 Major Project, download and save the Skills Exercise.

Go through the list and rank each characteristic on a scale from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest). Do you feel like you are an expert on a particular skill due to extensive knowledge and experience? Rank that characteristic with a "5." Do you feel like you have not learned about or utilized a particular skill? Rank that characteristics with a "1."

Step 2 - Your "5" List

What items received scores of "5?" Consolidate this list of your top skills, qualities, and characteristics. You should emerge with a list of attributes that define your core and collateral strengths. You may be surprised to learn of skills that you never felt existed and also discover that qualities which you believed were your strongest assets did not emerge as high on your list.

Keep the list handy since the information will be used in your Module 3 Major Project. This list serves as the first draft of your capabilities and will assist you in writing your cover letter and resume as well as communicating who you are in your interview.
