A gas within a piston-cylinder assembly executes a Carnot power cycle during which the isothermal expansion occurs at TH = 600 K and the isothermal compressions occurs at TC = 300 K. Determine:

a) The thermal efficiency

b) The percent change in thermal efficiency if TH increases by 15% while TC remains the same

c) The percent change in thermal efficiency if TC decreases by 15% while TH remains the same

Reduce the appropriate first law of thermodynamics : Water, initially a saturated vapor at 4 bar, fills a closed, rigid container. The water is heated until its temperature is 400 degree celc. KE and PE effects can be ignored.
Determine the thermal efficiency of the cycle : A steam power plant implements an ideal reheat Rankine cycle. Steam enters the inlet of thigh-pressure turbine at 8 MPa and 450 Celsius and the inlet of the low-pressure turbine at 0.5 MPa and 500 Celsius. The condenser operates at 10 kPa.
Air standard otto cycle with constant specific heats : A six cylinder engine runs at 4000 RPM with a compression ratio of 8:1 and a total clearance volume (total for all 6 cylinders) of 600 mL at TDC. The engine intakes atmospheric air at 100 kPA & 20C. The maximum temperature during the cycle is 1500 C
Ideal gas equation and van der waals equation : A rigid tank has a volume of 23.3 m3 and due to safety requirements its pressure should not exceed 105 bar. If the tank has been filled with 1000kg of water vapor and is heated to 360°C check to see if it is within safety requirements.
Determine the percent change in thermal efficiency : A gas within a piston-cylinder assembly executes a Carnot power cycle during which the isothermal expansion occurs at TH = 600 K and the isothermal compressions occurs at TC = 300 K.
Determine the temperature distribution in the sphere : A medical investigator is proposing to use radioactive spheres for thermal ablation of tumors. The idea is that the radioactivity will generate heat at a constant, uniform rate, G (J m-3 s-1), that will raise the temperature of the sphere relative to..
Determine the torque required to run the pump : A hydraulic pump has displacement of 3 in^3 and a mechanical efficiency of 0.92. The flow output of the pump is 21 gpm, and the pressure at the outlet is 1250 psi. Determine the torque required to run the pump at 1800 rpm.
Use the first approximation equation for contact stress : A gear set has a module of 5mm, a 20° pressure angle, and a 24-tooth case-iron spur pinion driving a 48-tooth case-iron gear. The pinion is to rotate at 50 rev/min. What horsepower input can be used with this gear set if the contact stress is limited..
Suitable face width based on an allowable bending stress : A steel spur gear has a module of 1 mm and 16 teeth cut on the 20° full-depth system and is to carry 0.15 kW at 400 rev/min.
