Discussion #1:
Organizational Excellence
Based on the situation in which the business organizations are today, they need to strive towards excellence, that is the only way success can be achieved because each and every organization is striving for perfection thus excellence.
It can be stated that communication competence is the key to organizational excellence which cannot be denied at all because the success of an organization depends largely on the type of communication they practice internally and externally in the organization.
The members of the organization need to be encouraged to communicate more and propose new ideas which will make the organization stand out in the crowd and even the clients will prefer such organizations, in order to do so, employees may be recommended to take some training which will enhance some of their skills such as creative and critical thinking, speaking up sessions, idea that will need to be formulated etc.
The employees' ideas and suggestions need to be appreciated and recognized so that they feel that they are important and will propose ideas regularly in the future. This will enhance and improve the communication strategy to quite an extent.
Discussion #2
To achieve organizational excellence, the organization in question must have a philosophy or moral code that represents their image. In the military, Airmen follow three core values: integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. These core values also represent the image of the Air Force.
Employees should be acknowledged as the face of the company or "brand ambassadors" because they frequently interact with constituencies (Argenti, 2012). If I need to improve communication competency among employees, I must first be competent in communication myself.
Communication is not just about the words you use. It involves the setting in which it occurs, the recipients, and the reputation of the person delivering the message (Strategic Direction, 2014). If I, as a leader, am more communicative with my employees in a motivational way that embodies the "core values" of the company, it will encourage them to do the same within the organization.
Having an open-door policy can be beneficial in creating an environment that encourages communication. "Companies that recognize the relationship between employee engagement and business success may seek ways to foster and facilitate workers' emotional well-being" (Hynes, 2012, p. 467). Depending on the resources available to the organization, starting a program that pays for employees to take communication classes could be rewarding.
To see if this would be a viable option, I would use a strategy like Argenti's Corporate Communication Strategy Framework (Argenti, 2012). If I fail to analyze my audience correctly, it can prove costly to the organization. I will also use this strategy to determine if the classes are helping employees become competent in communication.
A method to gauge this could be customer satisfaction surveys based on employee interaction. There are many ways to accomplish this goal, that is why having an organizational strategy is necessary, not all corporations have the same resources, objectives, and time.
