A water treatment plant for a community of 10,000 is designed for a constant flow rate of 4000 m3/d. The flocculation system will consist of three tanks, each having an average hydraulic retention time of no greater than 45 min. It is desired to be able to take one tank out of service for maintenance without exceeding an average velocity gradient of 50 s-1 in the remaining two units. Determine the motor output power, assuming that losses are 50%.
