Assignment - Public Health Discussion
Description - Locate and report epidemiological data relating to your community (Denton, TX) by consulting different databases/sources. In addition, briefly discuss genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors that are related to the key health issue.
Determine the most pressing health issues for your community. To do this, you can use online databases/other resources to obtain data related to rates of disease (chronic and communicable), injury, and other health problems (e.g., teen pregnancy). Distinguish these health issues according to age group, ethnic group, and SES. This will help you narrow your focus and choose a sub-population to target.
You may use figures and tables to display some of this information, but you still need to address it in the narrative. Always refer to figures/tables, etc. in the narrative (see APA for more information).
As addressed in the introduction, it is a good idea to compare local rates of disease/injury/other health problems with state and/or national rates.
Address how the epidemiological data align with the health concerns and important issues identified by the community gatekeepers (i.e., actual vs. perceived needs).
Identify your key health issue and target sub-population based on issues of high importance and changeability.
Once you identify the key health issue and target sub-population, briefly address the genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors that are related to the key health issue. You will need to support this section with information from peer-reviewed journals, credible websites, and/or other academic/scholarly sources. Be careful not to plagiarize, and remember to cite all references in APA format (6th ed.).
