Water hammer: An emergency drawdown structure for a reservoir consists of a 1,000 ft long, 1.0 ft (inner) diameter commercial steel pipeline with a wall thickness of 0.5 inches. A gate valve is located at the end of the pipe. If the valve is closed suddenly, determine the maximum water hammer pressure that will develop in the pipeline. The water level in the reservoir is 98.4 ft above the outlet.
