A venturi meter, with a 50 mm diameter throat, is installed in a 150 mm diameter horizontal pipeline. The pressure at entry to the meter is 138 kN/m2 gauge. Determine the maximum flow for which the meter may be used if the pressure at any point must not fall below 55 kN/m2 absolute.

  • The coefficient of discharge for the meter is 0.96
  • The density of the fluid is 960 kg/m3
  • Atmospheric pressure = 101.4 kN/m2
  • Acceleration due to gravity = 9.81 m/s2
