In a fruiting plant, fruits were either red or yellow, or oval or long. Red and oval are the dominant traits. Yellow and long are recessive, respectively. Two plants, plant A and plant B, both heterozygous for these traits, were testcrossed, giving the following results:

Phenotypes Progeny Plant A Progeny Plant B
(Red, long) 46 4
(Yellow, oval) 44 6
(Red, oval) 5 43
(Yellow, long) 5 47
_______ _______
100 100

Determine the location of the fruit color gene relative to the fruit shape gene:

The answer would be 10 map units but how does one get to this answer. I know the nonrecombinants are equal to ten but how do I know which non recombinants to use?

What are the genotypes of plant A and plant B and how do I determine this answer?
