A cylindrical specimen of a type of stainless steel that has an initial cross-sectional area of 700 mm 2 and height of 70 mm is to be tested in a compression test. The same type of stainless steel has been previously tested in a tensile test resulting in flow curve parameters of 1,200 MPa for the strength coefficient and 0.40 for the strain-hardening exponent. Determine the load required to compress the specimen to a height of (a) 62 mm and (b) 58 mm assuming that the cross section increases uniformly.
