Part 3: Screening and Evaluating Candidates
This part of the assignment asks the group to develop the evaluation criteria you will use to determine which candidates will be submitted to Jerry for final interviews and the offer. In this phase of the screening process, you will complete the following tasks.
Develop a standard checklist to which all candidates’ qualifications will be compared.
Determine the kind of interview process you intend to use for the initial meetings, and develop a list of questions that you will ask every candidate. Be sure to justify the interview process you’ve chosen.
You have asked Jerry to develop a list of questions to ask each candidate. Here are Jerry’s questions: any questions you believe cannot be asked in their present form should be re-written. Be sure that the questions do not create the appearance of discrimination of harassment.
How long have you been married? What does your husband or wife do for a living?
Do you have children? Do you have dependable child care? Do you plan to have more children? If you currently have no children, when do you plan to start having children?
How old are you?
Which church do you belong to? How often will you need to have Sunday off to attend church?
What is your racial extraction, and how long has your family lived in the US?
Have you ever declared personal bankruptcy, bounced a personal check, or missed a credit card payment?
Do you own or rent your home?
If you will do second interviews, include a list of the questions you’ll ask during that interview. If you will not do second interviews, be sure to explain why you believe that second interviews are not necessary.
