1. The Heat-Master is a new heat pump design that has a Carnot COP (coefficient of performance) of 15.5. However, its actual coefficient of performance is only 6.90. Determine the second law availability efficiency of this heat pump.

2. A heat pump is designed to provide 9.00 kW of heat to a small house at 20.0°C when the outside temperature is 5.00°C. The electric motor driving the heat pump draws 1.20 kW. Determine:

a. The first law thermal efficiency (i.e., COP) of the heat pump.
