A layer of soil is free to drain from its upper and lower boundaries. Extensive surface loading results in a uniform vertical stress increase of 55 kPa. Assuming consolidation is one-dimensional determine the excess pore pressure at the centre of the layer when 70% of its final settlement has occurred.
