a typical sedan ( like corolla Toyota) has unloaded mass of 1.2x10^3 kg. One purpose of the suspension system is to damp out oscialltion of this mass when the tires hit a bump. For this to be most effective the system must be critically damped.

a) Suppose the decay constant "a" is to be 1s. what must the damping coefficient be if the system is critically damped ?

b) Determine the effective spring constant "k" for the suspension system for critical damping as described in part (a).

c) Under what conditions can the sedan be pushed into an over-damped regime? Given that the 1.2x10^3 Kg is the minimum mass of the sedan, what must change for the system to transition to an under-damped regime ?
