Topic: Sentences in English can be ambiguous- a person saying such a sentence could mean one of two different things. For example, in class we talked about the sentence: I like linguistics more than most people. This sentence is ambiguous because it can mean either that I like linguistics more than I like most people, or that I like linguistics more than most people like linguistics.

For this assignment, you are provided with sentences which are ambiguous, just like the example one is. For each sentence, explain where the ambiguity is and/or what two meanings each sentence could have. You can do so either by paraphrasing the sentence in two different ways or
by explaining which word or phrase can be interpreted in different ways.

Question: Note that you are not required to translate anything into Predicate Logic! While some of the interpretations of the sentences can be translated into Predicate Logic, several of them require more elaborate meta-languages to do formally. As such, try to use your intuition as an English speaker to determine the different meanings of each sentence.

1. Frank saw the thief with the binoculars.
2. Jimothy and Craigory lifted the piano upstairs.
3. Terry said that Simeon would be here yesterday.
4. Someone always gets an A on every exam.
5. Balthazar and Sandra or Gene went to the movies.
6. Three professors graded every homework.
