Question: If the null hypothesis is true, the correct conclusion is "cannot reject the null hypothesis." If the alternative hypothesis is true, the correct conclusion is "reject the null hypothesis." Increasing the sample size increases the probability of making the correct conclusion in one of these cases, but not in the other. Your job is to figure out which is which. Here is a hint: The conclusion "cannot reject the null hypothesis" is made as long as the sample proportion falls within a reasonable number of standard errors of the null value. When the null hypothesis is true, does the likelihood of this happening change as the sample size increases? Explain, and use this explanation to determine which conclusion has an increased probability of being made correctly with increasing sample size.
