Consider a two-station segment of an electronics assembly line. the first station consists of an automated machine that takes an average of 5.1 minutes to process a job. the machine is subject to failure so 20 percent of the jobs drop out after the first station. the second station is a manual operation staffed by a single operator who takes on average 5.7 minutes to inspect each job. there are no failures at the second station. jobs arrive to this segment of the first station at a rate of 10 jobs per hour.
