Question: Determine the best approach in working with the patient and the family for the below patient 45-year-old man was admitted into the hospital with dizziness, SOB, and severe abdominal pain through the ER. While running test the patient sustained a frontal lobe stroke and damage to the GI tract was also suspected. Most likely due to a blood clots. In order to prevent further stroke and GI damage, the patient was placed on heparin (a blood thinner). The stroke affected the portion of the brain which controlled the ability to swallow, speak, and confusion but would be able to walk with assistance and may eventually be able to speak. In discussing with the family, they indicated the patient would want to continue life through artificial nutrition supports. The Physician order a PPN placement for short-term use with a RDN nutrition consult with the possibility to transitioning to TPN or a PEG later. The RDN provided the family with the nutrition consult and they understood the nutrition approaches which would be utilized. However shortly after it was determined that the stroke was a hemorrhagic stroke in which the heparin caused the man to have additional damage to
