A beam is simply supported at the ends and is continuous over two spans. The left-hand span is 16 ft and the right-hand span is 20 ft. The beam supports a uniform load of 900 plf, which includes its own weight, over the entire 36 ft and also a concentrated load of 10,000 lb applied at a point that is 5 ft from the left-hand end of beam. Determine the bending moment at the intermediate support due to the uniform load only and then the concentrated load only.

What would be the void ratio of the clay at the point

At a point in a saturated normally consolidated clay layer the soil is subject to an in-situ vertical effective stress of 50kPa. The soil at the point has a moisture content of 44% and a compression index of 0.45.

What is the hydraulic conductivity of the other two soils

A permeameter with a cross-sectional area of 400 cm2 contains 3 soils in 50 cm thick layers. A total head difference of 2.0 metres results in a flow rate of 100 cm3/s. The head loss through the top layer of soil is 50 cm.

How to show the oscillation of each of the systems

mechanical oscillations can be described in general by the following function: y(t)= e^(-t/m) *sin(wt+phi). where (t) is time and (w) is the oscillation angular frequency in radians per unit time.

Estimate the change in pressure over 100 m of pipeline

Water at 20 degrees flows at a velocity of (V =) 2 m/s in a (D =) 250-mm diameter horizontal ductile iron pipe. Estimate the friction factor f in the pipe, and state whether the pipe is hydraulically smooth or rough.

Assuming steam to be an ideal gas, calculate its specific volume and density at a pressure of 90 lb/in^2 and a temperature of 650°F.

What pressure gradient along a streamline is required

What pressure gradient along a streamline, dp/ds, is required to accelerate water upwards in a pipe at 0.5 m/s^2  The incline is 1:10, i.e., 1 m upward for every 10 m horizontal

Determine the tsp emission rate of the power plant

On a clear summer afternoon with a wind speed of 3.20 m/s measured at 100 m elevation, the TSP (total suspended solids) concentration was found to be 1520 ug / m3 at a point 2 km downwind
