Problem

A new, empty ready mix truck arrives to a batch plant every 2 to 7 minutes (i.e., the time between arrival of trucks is uniformly distributed between 2 and 7 minutes).

The trucks are either 3 mA3 or 6 mA3 in size, and there is an equal chance that the next one to arrive is either 3 mA3 or 6mA3 in size. The large trucks load at the batch plant in 5 minutes, the small ones in 3 minutes. Only one truck can load at the batch plant at a time.

Simulate the arrival of 1000 trucks (the first assigned paper (Banks 1999) provides a similar example for a one bank teller operation).

Determine the average time a truck waits for the batch plant and the % of time that the batch plant is idle. What is the largest number of trucks that simultaneously have to wait for the plant (i.e., what is the longest that the truck line gets to be)?

With the provided information and the functions you just learned, you can build your own spreadsheet or you can use the template.
