Determine the area enclosed by the traverse in sq. ft or m2 using one or more of the following methods.
(a) Use grid paper as an overlay or underlay. Count the squares and partial squares enclosed by the traverse. Determine the area represented by one square at the chosen scale and, from that relationship, determine the area enclosed by the traverse.
(b) Use a planimeter to determine the area.
(c) Divide the traverse into regularly shaped figures (squares, rectangles, trapezoids, triangles) using a scale to determine the figure dimensions. Calculate the areas of the individual figures, and sum them to produce the overall traverse area.
(d) Use the given balanced traverse data and the technique of coordinates to compute the traverse areaA highway is to be constructed so that it passes through points A and E of the traverse. The proposed highway grade is +2.30 percent rising from A to E ((cL elevation at A = 68.95). The proposed cut-and-fill sections are shown in Figure 8.39(a) and (b).
A 20 kg box is on an upward inclined surface of 30 degrees from the floor. the velocity of the box is zero when it is subjected to a constant horizontal force F=30N. assuming the surface is smooth,
The motion of a particle is defined as x=t^2-8t+7 and y=0.5t^2+2t+4, where x and y are in meters and t is in seconds. Determine the magnitude of the smallest velocity reached by the particle, and the time, position, and direction of that velocity.
Water with a static pressure of 1.96kN/M2 flows through an 800 mm diameter pipe. A pitot tube pressure gage in this pipe reads a pressure of 5.88 kN/M2. How do you determine the volume flow rate (Q) of the water? (Q = 1.40 M^3/sec, V=2.79 M/sec)
An industrial off gas steam must be treated for both particulates and SOx. The gas is at 1500 degrees F and 1.5 atm of pressure containing 80 mg/cubis meter of particulates and 25 mg/cubic meter of SOx. A two unit system is bring considered consistin..
water flows through a pipe of diameter 3 inches. If it is desired to use another pipe for the same flow rate such that the velocity head in the second pipe is four times the velocity of the first pipe.determine diameter of pipe
a layer of sand 4 m thick, overlies a layer below permeability clay, 5m thick. the bulk unit weight of the sand is 16.5 KN/m^3 and its saturated unit weight is 18 KN/m^3. the saturated unit weight of the clay is 21 kN/m^3.
Given a sand with a moisture content of 10%, how much water needs to be added to bring the sand to a moisture content of 20%
How are Division 10 specialty items unique in terms of quantification and cost estimation when compared to other construction items? Why do you think it is important to be careful about estimating the installation costs of specialty items?
Evaluate the pressure head at point a and determine the vertical effective stress at point b and evaluate the lateral pressurein the brown clay
A ground level source is emitting pollution. An air sampler is located 1 km downwind and 0.5km crosswind of the source measures the concentration of the pollutant ant ground level as 10 micrograms/cubic meter.
two forces applied as shown to a hook support. knowing that the magnitude of P is 35 N, determine by trigonometry the required angle if the resultant R of the two forces applied to the support is to be horizontal and the corresponding magnitude of..
