A block of mass A=.75kg moves with a constant speed v0=5.2 m/s and approaches another block which is at rest and attached to an ideal spring with the force constant k=2.5 N/m. On the top of that block is mounted a siren which can produced only a sound of single frequency. The combined mass of the block and the siren is m=.55kg. There is no friction between the blocks and the floor. The two blocks collide, stick together and start oscillating.

a. Determine the amplitude of oscillations of the 2 blocks

b. At the moment of collision the siren is activated. Determine the ratio ƒmin/ƒmax of the minimal over maximal frequency of the sound produced by the siren as heard by the nearby observer. The speed of sound in the air is 344m/s.
