2 single-phase AC motors connected in parallel are fed from a220 volt source. The motors have the following ratings:

Motor #1: 220V, POUT = 50 hp, Efficiency = 82%, PF =0.82 lagging

Motor #2: 220V, POUT = 75 hp, Efficiency = 86%, PF =0.85 lagging

a) Determine the aggregate (total) power factor for the two motors.

b) Determine the size of capacitor connected in parallel with themotors in kVars necessary to improve the total power factor to 0.9lagging.
