A plate of thickness and conductivity moves with a velocity U over a stationary plate of thickness and conductivity The pressure between the two plates is P and the coefficient of friction is L1 1k L2 . 2 k P.

The surface of the stationary plate is insulated while that of the moving plate is maintained at constant temperature T. Determine the steady state temperature distribution in the two plates.
