Using the method of superposition, draw a neat labelled Bending Moment Diagram and Shear Force Diagram for the beam member shown in Figure 1, and determine the following:

(i) Bending stresses under maximum positive and negative bending moment;

(ii) Maximum nominal average shear stress;

(iii) Total deflection at the hinge B (theoretical result 0.035mm) and hinge D (theoretical result 3.3 5mm). Using approximate method only based on Figure 2.4 of your study book. Please clearly indicate your assumptions and comment on the difference between your results and theoretical results. Next year when you study CIV3 505 (structural analysis), you will learn more rigorous methods to determine the deflection, such as, Moment -Area Theorems and Conjugate-beam Method.

The beam segments are connected by pins at B and D. Assume that the beam is made of steel (250UB31.4) with E=200x10^3 MPa and is loaded in its strong axis direction.
