A thin ceramic plate is heated in a kiln, raising its temperature from 28°C to 580°C.

a) The area of the plate increases by 0.65 percent during the heating. Determine alpha for this material.

b) We cut a strip of length 16.05 centimeter at this high temperature. Determine how long will the strip be if we cool it to -100°C?

The plate in the problem above has a mass of 2.04 kilogram and a specific heat of 1200 J/kg°C.

c) Determine how much heat energy is needed to heat the plate from 28°C to 580°C?

d) The plate is located in ice to cool it down to 28°C. Evaluate the minimum amount of ice needed to do this.
