Question: Determine how long your eyepiece ruler is in micrometers (um). Do this by lining up the left sides of both rulers with the rulers parallel. Determine the um measurement knowing that .1 mm = 100 pm. Each tick mark on the micrometer thus equals 10 um. Remember that each objective will have to be calibrated separately. In this example, the eyepiece ruler measures 655 um across with the 10x objective.

Now to simplify the math later on, determine the width of one eyepiece unit (from 0 to1). The eyepiece ruler has 10 units, therefore one eyepiece unit is 65.5 um across (655 um/10 eyepiece units).
